Downtown is the safe, vibrant, historic center of St. George, offering unique employment, education, entertainment, and entrepreneurship opportunities. Downtown welcomes all community members to gather and thrive, consistent with its primary roles as the seat of government, home to residents in all stages of life, and showcase of local history, arts, and culture.

To achieve a Thriving Downtown, we will advance the following strategies, in alignment with the Downtown Area Plan (link to DAP):

Guide downtown growth and reinvestment

Identify appropriate locations within Downtown to invite growth and revitalization

Recognize and develop the distinctive and varied character of the downtown neighborhoods and activity centers

Invest in public infrastructure and expand capacity Downtown to accommodate the desired growth potential

Allow for a healthy mix of non-residential, single-family residential, and multi-family residential uses to provide the foundation for long-term vitality in Downtown

Update the Downtown zoning to encourage development and align with plan goals

Expand housing supply and diversity and maintain desirable neighborhoods

Expand housing supply and residents living Downtown to support businesses, accommodate growth, and advance the Moderate Income Housing Plan (rd)

Retain a regional role as a central and vital economic node

Retain City facilities and services Downtown and encourage other governing agencies (County, State, Regional, Federal, etc.) to do so

Identify and advance a distinctive niche for Downtown within the network of commercial and employment nodes citywide

Promote and support a strong cluster of local and independent businesses in Downtown

Use placemaking to enhance the sense of arrival and positive experience of being in the Downtown Arts District

Enhance informal entertainment space Downtown that encourages patrons to increase visit duration and frequency
