St. George is the region’s economic heart and will provide a solid foundation for the growth to come. St. George will implement the following to maintain and enhance the economic success of the community:
Support a thriving and resilient economy

Institute land use policy and zoning that enables businesses to thrive throughout the city (see Responsible Growth)

- Implement recommendations from the Downtown Area Plan (Downtown Area Plan)

- Support a mix of uses, recognizing that commercial and residential developments are symbiotic, and a mix of uses can solidify economic vitality

Support local businesses and entrepreneurs

- Promote affordable commercial spaces within Downtown (see Thriving Downtown)

Maintain and enhance opportunities for a diverse mix of businesses

- Include opportunities for clean, industry/manufacturing

- Consider opportunities to integrate light or boutique manufacturing in commercial zone districts, as appropriate

- Target high-tech industries and partner with other local entities to support tech innovation

- Identify areas for land use modifications to support a diverse mix of uses and job opportunities

- Foster and support businesses that have a reduced environmental impact
Provide services to support the skilled workforce and create a resilient foundation of well-paid employment opportunities

Coordinate with the Governor’s Office of Economic Development, the St. George Chamber of Commerce, and others to amplify efforts to grow the workforce and increase access to quality job opportunities, job training, and job placement

Work closely with the Washington County School District to ensure access to education throughout the city

Work closely with Dixie State University, Dixie Technical College, and other local institutions to support career and technical training in alignment with the current and future needs of St. George

Promote housing choice, equity, diversity, and inclusion for the workforce (see Responsible Growth)

Expand tourism and visitor services to improve both the visitor and resident experience within the City

Enhance wayfinding, and access to information to guide visitors to target destinations and ensure they can move effectively through the city

- Implement the recommendations within the Downtown Area Plan

- Support branding and wayfinding across all Neighborhood Areas

Ensure access to information technology that supports the remote work revolution

Protect the airport from development that would hinder future growth and economic opportunity in this district
