St. George is at the center of the fastest-growing metropolitan area in the country, and everyone who lives here or who moves here knows exactly why. We offer an extraordinary quality of life for various lifestyles, from family to workforce, student to tourist, and second-home to retired residents. St. George is a welcoming city that fosters an active lifestyle, taking advantage of the great weather and the unique geological features of the region.

To secure and enhance this quality of life, St. George will strive to:

Preserve the community spirit and family-friendly atmosphere

Support the welcoming, giving, and engaged spirit throughout the community by providing opportunities for residents to engage in city improvements and land use processes within their neighborhood

Continue to foster a strong sense of community by hosting and promoting citywide activities and celebrations that bring the community together

Maintain and enhance neighborhood character by establishing formal Neighborhood Areas to strengthen community engagement and sustain the character and lifestyle of St. George into the future. Identifying smaller planning areas or Neighborhood Areas will allow for a more in-depth assessment of the conditions and needs of each area. It will also support equality of services and opportunities across the city.

Adopt policies establishing Neighborhood Areas, enabling residents to have a voice in the future vision for their community

Assess each Neighborhood Area through the lens of “Complete Neighborhoods” and identify opportunities to improve the neighborhood, ensuring access to daily needs, services and recreation. (complete neighborhood rd forthcoming)

Cultivate neighborhood area identity through branding efforts that intersect with other city goals, such as wayfinding, trails, and trailheads

Provide services and amenities that support the quality of life, independence, and security necessary to enjoy a full life in St. George from childhood through retirement

Create policies or ordinances to support the development of Neighborhood Centers within each Neighborhood Area

- Neighborhood centers will provide services that support daily needs such as schools, care services, grocery stores, everyday use retail, employment, and access to transit

Promote housing options that cater to all stages of life and enable people to live and thrive in St. George

Continue to provide access to the outdoors through quality open space, parks, and a robust trail network throughout the community

Foster opportunities and collaborate with partners to provide social gathering places and recreational opportunities for all generations

- Continue to support entertainment for youth and families, such as the splash pad and museum collaboration at Town Square

- Expand informal entertainment and recreation opportunities for adults and seniors through both public and private improvements

- Expand activities for teens and young adults

Reinforce and maintain a safe and secure community

Support an atmosphere of safety where residents feel comfortable in all areas of the city throughout the day and night by implementing urban design best practices (rd)

- Implement best practices as collected and curated by the International Crime Prevention through Environmental Design Association (rd)

Mitigate the perception of diminished safety that often accompanies population growth and increased density

- Establish a crime prevention program that uses evidence-based strategies to reduce the rate of crime and reduce re-offending

- Collect data to assess crime trends and implement ongoing crime prevention strategies to respond to the crime data

- Provide education and outreach to share crime prevention strategies and successes with the community
